1st grade students’ fundraising activities at CSIA: Is it a school fair or fundraiser?

Updated: Mar 31

1st-grade students at CSIA not only broke away from traditional notions of donations but also contributed to the hospital for ALS patients in creative ways.

Fundraising is the process by which institutions or organizations gather funds to achieve social, economic, or cultural goals. Fundraising plays a crucial role in various entities such as non-profit organizations, businesses, government agencies, etc. Through fundraising, projects are implemented, positively impacting society. Common fundraising activities can be an auction, a half marathon, and a concert. Although these initiatives have noble intentions, formal donations of this kind may seem monotonous for students. Therefore, 1st-grade students at Cheongshim International Academy took part in unique fundraising events with special guests from the organization on January 2nd. We engaged in donation activities throughout various types of games and missions. We organized a team of 6 students. The teams showed a challenging spirit to raise money for ALS patients. Among the five missions were activities like moving tennis balls with straws, collectively pulling a water bottle with a rope, and bouncing balls on pottery. Beyond typical donation work, these enjoyable and innovative missions provided an opportunity for meaningful donations, making it a great chance for our age.

1st-grade student Lee, Hyunseo (Class 4) mentioned, "Participating in such a fun fundraising activity made me incredibly happy, and it was fascinating that donation work could be so enjoyable!" Furthermore, Kim, Seoyoon (Class 4), also in the 1st grade, stated, "Through the instructor, I felt proud to indirectly experience unfamiliar activities like donations with my classmates."

Based on interviews with CSIA students, it's evident that unconventional fundraising activities, such as the Hair Tag Project providing hashtags that look like hair for cancer patients or the Hug Tree initiative dressing trees in winter, not only offer substantial help but also serve as inspiring challenges. Engaging in diverse and creative donation activities aligns with CSIA’s ACG philosophy—fostering an altruistic mind, creative knowledge, and global leadership. And I look forward to diverse and new fundraising activities at CSIA in the future.
