About Sports medicine

Have you ever heard of sports medicine?

What comes to your mind when you hear the word sports medicine? When I first encountered the word sports medicine, I thought that it was defined as medical skills and knowledge used in sports. Just as simple as the name suggested. And as many may assume correctly - sports medicine indeed is defined as a field of medicine that is related to injuries, diseases, training, and performance improvements related to exercise. This field includes various disciplines such as kinetic physiology, rehabilitation, nutrition, psychology, motor physiology, biomechanics, and functional evaluation.

The main tasks in sports medicine can be divided into two main categories. The first is to protect the athletes by taking care of their health, thereby contributing to the improvement of their performance. The second is to help improve their performance by applying results from scientific research, such as studies in physiology, relating them to sports, and fundamentally contributing to a safer game.

So, why does sports medicine exist? In other words, what is the importance of this discipline? As mentioned earlier, sports medicine greatly assists sports athletes in preventing injuries and improving their performance. It is also a very useful discipline in preventing injuries as well as treating them. Sports medicine also works very well for the general public, which emphasizes the importance of healthy living and exercise, and helps them enjoy healthy lives by providing education on the right ways to exercise.
