CSIA celebrated 2023’s October 31st as Costume Day. Once again, our school’s student council departments, with the International Cultural Integration Department having made the general arrangements, have tried to make steps toward celebrating international cultures.

Costume Day took place on October 31st (2023) for the whole day. Like the name tells us, students could wear costumes in classes, the cafeteria, and everywhere! Each department had their own themes and was required to wear them and few students prepared their own personal costumes. Other than this, there were also many activities run by the student council departments.

Originally, the event was to be held inside the gym from 18:00 to 21:00. Each student department was to set up booths where they sold snacks for fundraising. Arrangements were almost done and each department had chosen what to sell for their booths but about 2 weeks before the event, they were told that the school gym could not be used. For this reason, many of the plans arranged beforehand could not take place . It was on October 26th when the school notified that the words “H**lloween” and “p*r*y” seemed inappropriate considering the Itaewon incident last year. Which was also the reason the name this event had to change to Costume Day. Though this event had many bumps, the student council departments have worked their very hardest for us to enjoy the day. So, what were some activities that we could enjoy?

Costume Day has been an opportunity for our school to learn from our mistakes such as not having enough discussion between students and teachers before making official decisions.

Although there were many changes to the original plans that were unexpected, students were able to enjoy the day as it was intended and we thank the student council departments for their continuous effort and time to make our day memorable.
