Yet again, the season has come back. At the start of a new school year, along with CSIA’s 19th entrance ceremony and new classmates, a big mission awaits us; getting into school clubs. Especially juniors, with the freedom they are given right inside the palm of their hands, are showing an ambitious and aspirational attitude in making their clubs. The clubs that are going to be introduced in this article are a few of the many, but each and every one of them shines bright with passion and aspiration. Today, this article is going to introduce newly-made clubs of 2024, Agora Xenia, DIKE, and PANDORA from direct interviews with the head of each club.
-Agora Xenia-
*head: Daeho Lee (Kyle Lee)-senior
*Regular course club
Agora is a club whose goal lies in connecting each student’s interest through international perspectives and exchanges. It was created to bring a new era of international exchange clubs to CSIA and aims to provide students with experience in participating in competitions and unique qualifications to improve their resumes. It is divided into two fields, STEM and humanities which gives students a chance to further deepen their knowledge in various fields.
Agora Techne, the STEM department in Agora Xenia focuses on science technology journalism workshops, writing science articles (including in-depth coverage), interviews, debates on the ethics of technology, analyzing science journals, and reviewing STEM-related books or research papers. Agora Cosmo, the humanities department provides experience in debate competitions, Model United Nations, journalism based on one’s interest, cultural exchange programs, literature book reviews and community services. Both Techne and Cosmo participate in fundraising, debate framework lectures, cooperation projects, student symposiums (online presentations). Moreover, Agora has shown plans to continuously broaden its stage in international society through exchanges with other international schools, debates online, and collaboration with foreign schools.
-DIKE-
*head: Raewon Kim-junior
*Irregular course club
DIKE is a law club where it provides a great opportunity for students to get close to ‘law’ which many feel is a rather grim and serious topic to approach. They are going to achieve this by visiting courts in person (an uncommon experience that you won’t be able to get from other clubs), debates on controversial laws, watching law-related dramas (for a more fun yet educational approach), mock trials based on real cases.
Raewon Kim stated that after building her club into a more active and experienced club, she would like to expand DIKE into a regular course club which she hopes will turn into the most inspirational law club in CSIA.
Since DIKE is an irregular club, students are required to take interviews to enter the club. As a junior, it has been Raewon’s first time as an interviewer at CSIA and for many other juniors as well. “I felt nervous just as much as an interviewee because I was worried about a lot of things like ‘what if this question is too hard to answer?’ On the other hand, it was a very touching experience as the freshmen reminded me a lot about my past self when I was in their shoes; I used to get nervous and scared of taking interviews. Overall, I think it was a very meaningful experience!”, she stated.
Raewon Kim, the head of DIKE has shown great ambition in building an inspirational club and in studying law, as she shared her reason why she decided to build this club. “I have always wanted to build my club since I was a freshman but I didn’t know what kind of club I should make. But when we learned about the law in class, I felt my heart beating passionately. It was then, that it became clear that I wanted to study more about law.’, she stated.
-PANDORA-
*head: Hangyeol Lee-junior
*Regular course club
PANDORA is a psychiatric club, where you are able to not only study psychiatry but practice using the knowledge. In PANDORA, you can study psychiatry concepts with professional books and psychiatry book discussions for further knowledge, simulation by AI (diagnosing patients) to practice using the knowledge practically, and making resolutions about problems in psychology, neurology, and psychiatry using the MUN type procedure to raise interest in issues regarding these fields.
PANDORA has expanded as an irregular course club as well. With a different name Neuronorder, it is run by a member of PANDORA, Kyeongmin Song. In Neuronorder, there are plans for interviews with professionals for further knowledge and Hangyeol Lee also stated that both PANDORA and Neuronorder are considering participating in contests although it is yet to be fully confirmed.
Hangyeol Lee, the head of PANDORA has shown her passion for psychiatry, stating that she decided to build the club since there weren’t any clubs that focused on one field of medical study, specifically psychiatry.
The school thoroughly supports all the school clubs and celebrates the start of new ones. We hope that every club will continue to be a long-lasting, valuable, and inspirational club in our school. Thanks again to the head of each club for generously accepting interviews and for the sincere replies and to you guys, who have read this school news.
