What you’ll be waking up to every morning

“Good morning students. 안녕하세요. 학생 여러분 저희는 생활관 학생자치회 모니터들입니다.” The morning broadcast delivers a piece of uninviting news - it’s time to wake up. The voices of the student monitors sounded quite unfamiliar and strange at first but the students are getting used to it now that it’s merely a buzzing background noise. Every morning in CheongShim, the morning broadcast will announce the start of a new day.

If there are no problems, the morning broadcast will start on May 20th and everything will be played in both English and Korean. English is going to be played first, around 6:50 am. After the morning songs are played, the Korean version is played around 7:10 am. Although the student monitors thought that most of the students would prefer Korean and that Korean would be more effective in delivering the messages, the teachers preferred English. In the end, it came down to a negotiation of playing both languages.

Behinds

Behind the bright and clear voices, there hides an enormous effort and rough process. The idea of the morning broadcast was first shared around the third week of March. Every junior and senior monitor of middle school had to write the script of the part they were assigned in pairs. After editing the scripts, the recording started on May 7th and ended on May 14th. All of the monitors had to re-record multiple times and stay up late.

The purpose of the morning broadcast is to remind students of particular things they need to do on that day that they can easily forget. It also provides students with basic yet important etiquette that should be used in our school life. Like its purpose, we hope the morning broadcast will show its effect on improving Cheongshim on the whole.
