Some people think it is necessary to complain about what they dislike, believing it can help them remove their complaints by openly expressing their feelings. As a matter of fact, however, scientists have shown that griping is not the right solution for the fundamental problem but a catalyst for change in our brain. Let us begin by taking a closer look at recent biological reports.

WHY IS GRUMBLING SO DANGEROUS?

Research tells us that complaining has negative effects on health. All too often when people engage in one action, neurons in the brain begin to expand and quickly connect to each other. As individuals complain repeatedly, this will lead them to complain more often. Besides, it is fatal to physical health. When this process continues, a stress hormone called cortisol, which generates anxiety, high cholesterol level and obesity, is released. Thus, griping is not the way to solve the problem when it comes to health issues.

Furthermore, some emotions could easily pass from person to person. It is obvious that complaining causes both anger and anxiety. Psychologists explain these negative emotions are part of emotional contagion, which occurs in reaction to negative feelings rather than positive ones. Many people are often confused that negative feelings might disappear when it comes to moaning. Confronting the truth, however, it feels like they have been consuming their emotions meaninglessly.

HOW TO STOP COMPLAINING

Grumbling is an unreasonable method for the real problem. It adversely affects health, keeping itself to be severely contagious among people. The best solution to stop complaining is to simply ‘change’ what you are dissatisfied with or for you to ‘embrace’ the situation which cannot be changed. Whenever you are dissatisfied with something, try your best to be calm as much as possible. At last, this will allow you to find something positive in it.
