You’ve Been Gilmored

Picture from netflix

Waking up just in time not to be late, they quickly get dressed and start the car. There their day begins at Luke's Diner. This is the morning routine for Lorelai Gilmore and Rory Gilmore. In 2000, the TV show ‘Gilmore Girls’ came out to the world, which surprised everyone. Being the most beloved show for 20 years, the show still connects with viewers from a young age to the old, especially with high school students like me. In the small town of Stars Hollow, Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, a mother-daughter duo, sharing a close and witty relationship, go through their lives, relationships, and struggles all together.

In the eye of the show would be the relationship between Lorelai and Rory. Lorelai, who had Rory at 16, raised her daughter as a single mom. Their bond is unique because they are more like a friend, filled with constant banter and pop culture references. Lorelai encourages Rory to pursue her dream, which is to go to Harvard and become a journalist.

The show also goes deeper into the complicated relationship between Lorelai and her parents, Emily and Richard. Lorelai’s relationship with her parents highlights the pressure that often comes from wanting to live up to family expectations, things that most of us can relate to easily, being seriously pressured by the schools and society.

In conclusion, the setting of Stars Hollow adds to the show’s charm. The small-town vibe, with funny and quite weird residents and community events, creates a sense of warmth and belonging. For high school students, these kinds of heartwarming series in the show can be comforting, mostly for students who are facing pressure from social lives. The characters in the town, like Luke, Sookie, and Kirk, are like the people from our daily lives.

Although the show may have first shown before many of today’s high school students were even born, its messages and themes mean so much to us. Whether it’s about following your dreams, balancing school and personal life, or figuring out family issues, the show has something for everyone. As we face the pressures of high school and look ahead to the future, ‘Gilmore Girls reminds us to stay true to ourselves, just as Lorelai and Rory do. One day, dream of starting your day in Stars Hollow, where everything unfolds just as you imagined. There, you’re sitting on a bench with your best friend Lane, soaking in the best winter you’ve ever felt, wondering what other things will pop out.
